Afan Forestry

If you’re looking for cheap campsite near Afan Forestry, then Red Rock is the campsite for you.

Afan Forest Park was created back in the 1970s and has grown to become one of the UKs most iconic mountain bike destinations with many different trails  such as the black/severe W2 trail, which links to both red Y Wal and White’s Level trails and others such as Skyline and the Blur trail – Blue Scar.

Why Our Campsite

Although there are lodges and other campsites in Afan Forest, many prefer our campsite as they can ride to Afan Forest via Margam Forest.

If you have a mountain bike (or preferrably an e-bike) and enjoy distances, then it’s perfect for riding directly there from our campsite. Most people will leave the campsite into Margam Park, then climb up to the top of Cwm Philip and then its a rapid descent down to Maesteg Golf course where you will find an entrance into Afan Forest. Keep riding and you’ll reach the start of the Widow Maker (part of Blue Scar) where you can then descend to Afan Trail Centre and cafe.

Our Campsite is easily accessible for mountain biking at Afan Forest MTB Trails.

For the younger riders…

We definitely recommend driving around the mountain to Afan Trail Centre (Or Rhysyn Car Park in Pontrhydyfen) where you can join the old ‘railway line’ (tarmac cycleway) and follow the ‘Rookie’ green trail. running parallel to the tarmac are child friendly off-road  trails. Halfway along the trails is the fantastic Rookie Skills circuit where most kids love to spend an hour looping around on the boardwalk, steps, berms and pump track sections.

Guaranteed after an hour here, your kids will sleep well back at our campsite.

Fancy a walk…

There are so many diverse walks in Margam Park that vary from a one mile gentle stroll through to a 3 mile hike, but if you dare to venture up the hills to Margam Forest (see photo), you can easily walk for as far 10 miles. But if you prefer a different part of South Wales, then Afan Forest offers even more walks to plenish the soul and reset your mind.

The Afan Forest starting points for walks mainly at the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre, Rhyslyn Car Park and Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre. As Afan Forest is heavily popular with mountain bikers, we recommend sticking to the wider fire-roads, it;s worth noting that there are dedicated walking trails at Afan Forest Park, which are way-marked.
